  • Ashmore Reef 2017

    Kimberley Birdwatching will be running the successful annual Pelagic Trip from Broome to Ashmore Reef and return in early November 2016. As we did last year, we will be visiting Browse Island but instead of going to Adele Island, we will have an extra day at Ashmore. The dates will be from the 2nd to the 10th of November 2016.  The trip will be led by Rohan Clarke, Mike Carter and George Swann. The trip will be over 9 days departing Broome on Wednesday the 2nd of November at approximately 06:00 Hours and will return to Broome during the afternoon of Thursday the 10th of November. The cost will be AUD$5,950.00 per person inclusive of GST. This cost covers all meals and activities whilst at sea but not liquor and soft drinks. When you have booked and paid a deposit you will be sent an itinerary, Bird List, and a list of previous trip sightings since 2002. Reef Prince The vessel is a 38 m catamaran purpose built charter vessel with a main deck and a mid-deck. The Main deck has 6 interior double cabins, 4 with ensuites and 2 without and 4 share bunk style cabins with windows. Cabins on this deck have the use of 9 shared ablutions nearby. On the Mid Deck there are 10 cabins. Eight are external cabins with large windows two of which have double berths Two are internal (no windows) en-suited double bunks and 4 are deluxe en-suited doubles. There are 4 ablutions on this level All the cabins are air-conditioned and some people will be required to share. We have enclosed a cabin configuration. A fair and equitable cabin assignment (first to book get preference on cabins) will be arranged by the Charter operator when taking the booking.  Obviously couples will take preference on double cabins. People can bring their own drinks but soft drinks and a licensed bar is available.  Towels, sheets and bedding are provided. The boat is air-conditioned. This trip will be lead by Mike Carter renowned Australian birder & leading twitcher and George Swann, Kimberley bird guide and Organiser for the trip, both Mike and George are Ashmore Birding veterans with over 20 trips each to their names. The 8 day itinerary will follow much the same route and timing as previous October trips except that we will visit Browse Island instead of the Lacepede Islands.   • George Swann

    Your Guide - George Swann

    George was born in England and emigrated to Australia in 1984. He has lived in Broome since 1989 and established Kimberley Birdwatching in 1993.

    Through many years of fieldwork, George has gained tremendous knowledge of the natural history of the Kimberley, including bird distribution and behaviour, with the emphasis on rare, endangered and poorly known species.

    George is a professional bird guide, with a passionate interest in the natural history and ecology of the region. He is a resourceful bushman and an infectiously enthusiastic travelling companion.
